Two robbery with violence suspects who have been terrorising residents within Meru County were last night gunned down by DCI detectives.
The suspects had been captured on CCTV on numerous occasions, and following a public outcry mainly from M-Pesa operators, the DCI launched a manhunt for the criminals.
According to the DCI, the team spotted a suspicious motorbike with concealed number plates in Makutano area in Meru. Upon stopping the rider, two pillion passengers alighted and opened fire, prompting a shootout with the detectives.
“The detectives fired back in retaliation, where the two suspected ex-Kamiti Maximum Prison convicts were fatally injured with the rider escaping but is being pursued,” tweeted the DCI.
A patchet submachine gun the robbers have been using was recovered from the shootout.
