18 arrested for assaulting OCS, torching police post in Likuyani granted Sh200,000 bond

The 18 suspects who were arrested on Thursday, October 9 in Likuyani in connection to the assault of Matunda Police Station OCS and the torching of Mbururu Patrol Base have been arrraigned in Eldoret Law Courts.

The suspects were charged with three counts of arson, malicious damage to property and assaulting a police officer.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bond of Sh200,000 and a surety of the same amount.

The case will be heard on 23rd November, 2020 before Court No. 1 at Eldoret Law Courts.

 

The rowdy mob is said to be acting in retaliation of a the arrest of a 21-year-old suspect.

 

The suspect, Denis Lusava alias Makali, had been arrested on 7th October 2020 for torching Mbururu Police Patrol Base but he was later released on bond.

 

The suspect’s mother went to the police on 8th October and reported that her son never went home after being released, whereby she was referred to the OCS of Matunda Police Station for further assistance.

 

The OCS accompanied the mother of the suspect to the patrol base where he found the rowdy mob of about 200 people, and his attempt to address them was all in vain.

 

The mob started throwing stones at him where he incurred serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The unruly mob torched the patrol base and damaged the police motor vehicle.
