Town that unwittingly looted superglue from accident truck now stuck with useless cartons of the stuff

  • Kenyans have a tendency to loot from vehicles involved in accidents.
  • A TV47 Digital exclusive video shows how residents rushed and grabbed cartons from an overturned truck.
  • Now, there is an over-supply of silicone gasket in the area, and residents do not know what to do.

On Saturday, October 17, a truck overturned at the Limuru-Mai Mahiu Junction near Ngenia High School, Limuru.

To the dismay of many, instead of area residents rescuing the occupants of the truck, they decided to embark on a looting spree.

An exclusive video shared by TV47 Digital shows the residents carting cartoons of unidentified stuff from the overturned truck. Turns out that the “unidentified stuff” was not the silver or gold they had hoped for but rather glue. Good old, sticky glue!

Yesterday, it was revealed that the truck was transporting cartons of silicone gasket.

Silicone gasket (Black RTV brand) is used to seal, bond, repair, mend and secures glass, metal, plastics, fabric, vinyl, weather stripping and vinyl tops.

Basically, the town now has a ludicrous oversupply of superglue. The product they looted is of little commercial value to them. “Hii ni ujinga” (this is stupidity), mourns Caleb Gwandaru, pulling two cartons from under his bed. “I don’t know whether to laugh at myself or cry. But I feel sorry for the owner of the driver of the truck and the owner of the merchandise.”
