‘The Tweeting Chief’ Francis Kariuki is dead

Chief Francis Kariuki, popularly known as ‘The Tweeting Chief’, dies at 49.

The Lanet Umoja location chief succumbed to diabetes on Wednesday, October 21 at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.

Chief Francis Kariuki came into the limelight for using social media (Twitter) in his administrative duties and fighting insecurity in his area of jurisdiction.

The chief enjoyed a huge following on Twitter, over 59,000 followers, making his duties to rally residents towards different courses easier.

Kariuki practiced teaching for 21 years in different schools before switching to administration in 2009.

After 21 years as a teacher, the local administrator went back to school, earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Counselling and Psychology from Mount Kenya University.

Dr. Dan Omanga, a lecturer at Moi University, who did research that centered around his exploits eulogised Chief Francis as a tech genius.

“This is very sad. Chief Francis Kariuki was a tech genius! And the lynchpin of my research on ‘Digital media and Community Policing in Kenya’, a project funded by @APN_SSRC (IRG 2014) grant, and supported by a visiting fellowship @CASCambridge (2015/6),” said Dr. Omanga.
