A family from Kisii South Sub County has petitioned the government over the cold murder of their child at Homabay Women’s Prison, Homabay County.

Parents of Seline Kemunto aged three months from Nyantitira village, Bomwanda location, want the release of her body for burial and justice done.
This came as the officer in charge of the Homabay Women’s Rehabilitation facility M.s Otieno said over the phone that the matter was being handled by the area DCIO.
A mentally unstable prisoner allegedly grabbed the child whose mother was also serving a jail term in the same installation grabbed and smashed her onto the floor, leading to her death.
The deceased’s mother was recuperating from a caesarian operation she had undergone during delivery when the tragedy occurred.
Prison authorities summoned the deceased’s family and informed them of the incident requiring them to remove the body for burial at home.
Bonface Ogero, the father declined to do so and instead demanded a post mortem be conducted on the body pending litigation.
Clecensia Moindi, the deceased’s grandmother, narrated how the family was suffering since the local traditional culture barred them from resuming subsistence activities until the child was buried.
