The government has announced plans to offer free medical insurance to one million households in Kenya.
Speaking at the Health Sector Intergovernmental Forum on Universal Health Coverage in Mombasa County, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the pilot scheme will be carried out by the National Hospital Insurance Fund.
The scheme is under the Universal Health Care (UHC) project, one our pillars of his government. It will initially target the low income earners.
Fraudsters To Face the Music
“Those who attempt to defraud or abuse NHIF will be dealt with accordingly,” President Kenyatta said.
President Kenyatta received the country’s status report on UHC.
The report includes the ongoing beneficiary biometric registration exercise, and reform processes at Kenya Medical Supplies Agency. The Head of State also launched a national Malaria campaign.
