Machakos Assembly Speaker and Health CAS mum Florence Mwangangi is COVID-19 positive

Machakos County Assembly Speaker Florence Mwangangi has tested positive for Coronavirus.

Mwangangi, who is the mother of Health Chief Administration Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, said that she was among the two members of the county assembly who tested positive nine days ago.

The former Judicial Service Commission commissioner says that after noticing  one of her colleagues exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, she opted to have all the members of the assembly tested and her results came out positive.

Mwangangi says she is currently in self-isolation and following all the Ministry of Health guidelines, urging all Kenyans to adhere to the measures as COVID-19 is real.

COVID-19 Ravages County Assemblies

In October 18, Uasin Gishu County Assembly members and staffers were sent on a compulsory leave, after it emerged that Huruma MCA Peter Chomba who died suddenly had tested positive for COVID-19 posthumously.

The County Assembly of Homa Bay was also closed for two weeks in October 20 after one of the MCA tested positive for Coronavirus. The MCA who was tested in Kisumu is currently in isolation in one of the COVID-19 isolation centres within Kisumu.

Mombasa County also followed suit in October 27. A two-week recess for MCAs was extended by 14 days after seven of them tested positive for COVID-19.

Mombasa County Assembly was also shut down after it emerged that one of the workers had contracted the virus.
