COVID-19: 26 patients die as Kenya records 1216 new cases

Kenya has recorded 1,216 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total caseload in the country to 65,804.

According to the Ministry of Health, the new cases were detected from the 6,816 samples that were tested between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Since the advent of COVID-19 in the country in March, 760,775 samples have been tested so far.

From the new cases, 1,174 are Kenyans and 42 foreigners. The males account for the lion’s share of the new infections-726, against 490 females.

An 11-month-old baby is the youngest patient, while the oldest is 99 years.

The new cases are distributed across 33 counties as follows; Nairobi 439, Mombasa 250, Kilifi 63, Kiambu 59, Taita Taveta 52, Nyeri 41, Uasin Gishu 38, Laikipia 32, Kisumu 30, Kajiado 24, Kakamega 24, Kitui 22, Siaya 20, Machakos 19, Bungoma 17, Meru 14, Nandi 11, Tana River 10, Garissa 9, Homa Bay 8, Kisii 8, Nakuru 6, Kirinyaga 5, Murang’a 3, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Turkana 1, Nyandarua 1, Nyamira 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Kwale 1, Migori 1, West Pokot 1 and Makueni 1.

531 patients have recovered from the disease. 382 were from the Home-Based Care Program, while 149 were discharged from hospitals. The total recoveries have now risen to 43,626.

The total fatality has risen to 1,180 after 26 people lost their lives today.
