A man in Baringo North was brutally murdered while in a chang’aa den after he allegedly asked for his change.
Kipkorir Cherogong was taking a dose of the illicit brew in a local den at Kipsereman ward on Wednesday evening.
When he claimed his change, the brewer, identified as Mama Chemeli, reportedly hacked her customer to death.
Using a machete, she is accused of slitting Cherogong’s throat, before slashing his legs. Cherogong died instantly.
Overwhelmed with grief and anger, residents took matters into their own hands. They stormed the den and burnt everything to ashes.
Cherogong’s wife had a hard time explaining to their children what had befallen their father.
“The emotional mother was unable to narrate the ordeal to her children who were waiting for their father to bring food home,” one of the neighbours narrated to TV47.
Mama Chemeli, who fled scene of the crime, later surrendered to police.
Crimes related with illicit brew in Baringo North have been on the rise, with residents accusing the police of colluding with brewers.
Area villager Francis Chelimo said his efforts to weed out illicit brew has hit a dead end because of rogue police officers who are compromised.
