The Kenya rugby sevens team is set to compete in their second inter-regional series in the Madrid Sevens tournament in Spain on Saturday, February 27.
Shujaa have been drawn against hosts Spain, Chile, USA, Argentina and Portugal with the best three teams qualifying for the knockout stage.
Under the tutelage of Innocent Simiyu, Shujaa will kick off the tourney against Portugal on Saturday at 1:06 pm. They will then face a familiar foe in the USA at 4:34 pm, before wrapping up day one action against host Spain at 7:18 pm. All times are in EAT.
On Sunday Shujaa play Chile at 1:20 pm then conclude group stages against first leg champions Argentina at 3:42 pm.
Simiyu will be banking on the experienced Willy Ambaka and Billy Odhiambo to martial the team to a podium finish.
On their part, the ladies team will open their campaign against Russia.
The Lionesses will then face Poland, USA, France and hosts Spain, using the same round-robin circuit used in the Men’s circuit.
Lionesses will first play against France at 12:00 pm, after which they will entertain Poland at 3:28 pm and wrap up day one action against the USA at 5:50 pm (EAT).
In the just-concluded first leg of the Madrid tourney, Shujaa finished second after narrowly losing to Argentina. The Lionesses came out sixth in the competition.
