The woman who allegedly beheaded her one-year-old son for refusing to breastfeed will undergo a mental assessment.
Ndhiwa Principal Magistrate Mary Ochieng on Monday directed that Night Akoth Otieno, 23, undergoes a mental test at Homa Bay County Referral Hospital, before taking a plea within seven days.
Otieno who hails from Ng’ope village in Konyango Sub-location is accused of brutally killing her third born child on Saturday evening.
It is reported that the baby refused to breastfeed, irking the mother with his constant cries. It was at this point that Otieno picked a panga and beheaded her son. He died instantly.
Area chief Gabriel Nyatame says the child’s head was completely separated from the body as a result. He however, says Otieno suffers from a mental disorder.
Nyatame says that upon interrogation, the woman confessed to killing her own son.
The baby’s body was taken to Manyataa Nursing Home Mortuary in Kobodo.
