Late Juja Member of Parliament Francis Munyua Waititu will be buried today.
Waititu, known to friends and constituents as “Wakapee”, passed on at the MP Shah Hospital a week ago.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy William Ruto, and Kiambu Governor James Nyoro are among the leaders expected at the burial.
There’s no love lost between President Uhuru and his Deputy, and observers are keen to see how the meeting of the two will play out.
But Kiambu Town MP Jude Njomo, who chaired an adhoc burial committee set up by Parliament speaker Justin Muturi said: “We do not expect any drama (at the burial) and leaders should stick to programme. Those who want to play politics can use other platforms.”
The second-time legislator, died of brain cancer at age 63. He was first diagnosed with the disease in 2017.
The cortege leaves Lee Funeral Home for the service at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Juja. He will later be laid to rest at his Juja home.
The late MP was nicknamed “Wakapee” out of his generosity at a beer table. When a bill was brought after drinking with friends, he would declare “I will pay”, as he reached for his wallet. It was corrupted to “Wakapee.”
