It seems that drama is not yet over in the ongoing by-election across the county.
After early arrests and MPs kicking back tear gas at police, the mini-polls are living up to their billing- a fierce contest, with 2022 politics the underlying catalyst.
With allegations of electoral malpractice thrown left, right and centre by all the political divide participating, IEBC officials have not been spared either.
IEBC officials at Munami Primary School polling station in Namamali ward, Matungu, now claim that they were stripped naked by goons.
The visibly distraught electoral agency officials claim that the goons were at the service of Senator Cleophas Malala. Malala, however, denies involvement in any wrongdoing, insisting that no one was stripped naked.
“He came into the room, claiming that we IEBC officials, along with other party agents, had been bribed,” one of the sobbing officials said.
Shortly after that exchange was when the said goons allegedly attacked them and stripped some of the polling agents.
The IEBC official asserted that they had not received any money, wondering why they were embarrassed in that manner.
“Those who assaulted IEBC officials will face the law accordingly,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna lauded the officials at the station for upholding their integrity during the ongoing Matungu by-elections.
He added that the goons had been sent to disrupt the vote-counting process that would follow shortly.
“They are doing this to stop you from counting the votes. They know they have no chance of winning the election here in Matungu,” Sifuna said.
