Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Wesley Rotich has been freed on bail.
Rotich was arrested on Thursday morning in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, for allegedly obtaining goods on false pretense, contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.
Rotich denied the fraud charges at the Eldoret Law Courts and was released on KSh50,000 cash bail.
Upon his arrest, Rotich was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations offices at Eldoret for interrogation.
He allegedly bought vehicle tyres on credit basis from an Indian businessman. However, it was alleged that he refused to pay for them.
Following pressure to pay his dues to the businessman, he allegedly gave a cheque that bounced.
This prompted the matter to be reported to police in Eldoret, and his arrest followed.
“On the 3rd day of August 2018 at Eri Supplies Limited in Eldoret Town within Uasin Gishu County, with intent to defraud, unlawfully obtained 14 pieces of tyres make roadshine and one lorry battery make chloride exide all valued at Ksh.351,000 from Rajesh Sanghrajka by falsely pretending that you were in a position to pay him, a fact you knew to be false,” reads Rotich’s charge sheet.
