Ann Jane Karimi, the beautiful teacher two male colleagues were fighting over at Karoti Girls High school in Kirinyaga County, was just wrapping up her internship.
Karimi is a fourth-year student at a local university. This week, Timothy Musembi, 34, was charged at a Mwea court with attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty before Senior Resident Magistrate Monica Kivuti.
Musembi was driven to court under tight security. Upon taking plea, he was released on a Ksh100,000 bond until March 17 when the case will be mentioned. However, he was not able to immediately raise the bond and was thus remanded.
Musembi allegedly attacked his colleague Alphonce Orina, 26, with a panga, slashing him twice on the head, and on his hands.
According to the prosecution and police reports, Musembi stormed the staffroom and accused Orina of having a love affair “with his girlfriend.” He was brandishing a panga. He allegedly struck him on the head, prompting the victim to ward off the blows with his arms. In the process, his arms were badly injured.
As he collapsed to the ground, Orina was rescued by other teachers. The staffroom floor resembled a slaughterhouse with blood splashed everywhere. The victim lost consciousness due to loss of blood and was rushed to hospital by other teachers.
The suspect surrendered at Wang’uru Police Station where he was held until his court appearance on Thursday this week.
