A man who is accused of attempting to extort money from Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip now alleges that got the video he used to blackmail him from Saumu Mbuvi.
Appearing before Milimani Law Courts on Friday, Jones Ochieng Mbogo said that it was Saumu who sent him the video to tarnish the senator’s name. Saumu and Loitiptip are ex-lovers.
In the video, the lawmaker is allegedly smoking shisha in the company of another lady at a Nairobi restaurant.
The probation officer, however, dismissed Mbogo’s allegations, insisting that he is a cunning person who is accustomed to tarnishing prominent people’s names.
Mbogo had on February 17 pleaded guilty to the charge of attempting to extort KSh200,000 from the senator.
The court heard that Mbogo threatened to release the videos on social media if the lawmaker fails to pay the amount of money. The Senator did not succumb to the blackmail.
He failed reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.
Omolo was banking on the fact that smoking shisha is in contravention of the public health regulations.
With Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku preparing her ruling, Mbogo will spend two weeks in remand at the Industrial Area Prison.
