Manchester City will be looking to take another huge step towards winning this season’s Premier League title when they welcome familiar foe Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium today evening.
The two sides have met at Old Trafford twice already this campaign, with a 0-0 draw in the Premier League followed by a 2-0 City win in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, giving Pep Guardiola’s men the psychological edge coming into this encounter.
Man City are on a winning streak of 21-games in all competitions. They are 14 points clear of second-placed United.
With 15 games won in the Premier League, Manchester City are in a very comfortable position and a win in the Manchester derby will be a huge step towards lifting the coveted EPL title.
Man City has not lost in the league since last November 21. Meanwhile, Man United enter the derby off the back of a disappointing goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
However the Red Devils have managed to hold onto second position and are five points clear of fifth-placed Everton, who have a game in hand.
The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer-coached side has drawn each of their last three matches 0-0, while they have shared the points in four of their last five in England’s top flight. The Red Devils simply cannot afford to let their league form drift further.
Injuries will be a hurdle for United with Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Phil Jones ruled out, while Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial are doubts with muscle and knee problems respectively.
Goalkeeper David De Gea will miss the next six games after returning to Spain for the birth of his first child, meaning Dean Henderson will get an extended run in the side.
On the other hand the Citizens are currently at near-full strength after welcoming back Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Nathan Ake in recent weeks.
With the EPL title and top four positions at stake for both sides, it’s a must-watch game for anyone interested in football.
Victory will see City open up a 17-point lead over United at the top of the table.
The match will be aired from 7:30pm Kenyan time.
