Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is appearing at the Milimani Law court for the hearing a corruption case against him.
The Tuesday hearing was held outside the chambers in line with the COVID-19 protocols.
Earlier, Sonko’s legal team had applied for adjournment of the case, citing the defendant’s illness. But Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti dismissed the application, saying that an independent medical report shows the former Governor is fit to stand trial.
On March 4, the Magistrate had dismissed an application by Sonko to recuse himself from handling this case. Ogoti said Sonko’s defense team had failed to provide proof of alleged partiality.
Sonko was discharged from The Nairobi Hospital last month, after being admitted for almost a month.
Besides this case before Ogoti, Sonko is facing another Ksh14million trial before Anti-Corruption Court Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko.
