The headteacher of Kongoni Primary School, Naivasha, has this morning been injured in a freak road accident that involved a hippopotamus along Moi South Lake road, Nakuru County.
Eye witnesses say the teacher and his passenger were rushing to school to prepare for day-three of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams when the accident occurred.
“A pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction hit the rogue Hippo and swerved from its lane, colliding with the teacher’s car,” said an eye witness at the scene.
The headteacher and his passenger were taken to Naivasha sub-county Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, residents of the area took umbrage at how Kenya Wildlife Service officers dragged the hippo carcass from the accident scene. They said they’d have been left to enjoy the free hippo meat.
