Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been axed as the Senate deputy minority leader by NASA coalition senators.

Malala was ousted on Wednesday after Senate Minority Leader James Orengo summoned National Super Alliance (NASA) senators for a Parliamentary Group meeting where the decision was made.

Malala of Amani National Congress has been axed on ground of gross misconduct and alleged involvement in the chaos witnessed during the Matungu by-election.

Malala has been replaced with Kilifi Senator, ODM’s Steward Madzayo.

“Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo takes over as Deputy Minority leader after I Cleophas Malala have been ousted by NASA Senators. Anyway Ni Sawa tu, we move on regardless,” Malala said on a tweet.

Malala was elected after his Narok counterpart Ledama Ole Kina who had also shown interest in the position voluntarily stepped down on May 8, 2018.

The latest move will further escalate an already stained relationship between the NASA coalition parties i.e. ANC, ODM, Wiper and Ford Kenya.
