Kesses MP Mishra Swarup has excited Kenyans on Twitter after photographs emerged of him ‘launching’ a television set in his constituency.
While the MPs’ motives were well-intended, and “in line with his Manifesto on Youth and Women Empowerment,” social media commentators have not missed the humour in it.
The 70-inch TV set, hoisted on a wall, was bedecked with blue and gold-coloured ribbons, threaded together. The MP “launched” the set by cutting the ribbon with a pair of large scissors. The ceremony took place at Cheplaskei Peace Centre in Kesses, Uasin Gishu county.
“Ati mnasema wamenunuliwa TV wawatch maendeleo viu sasa (they’ve a TV set to watch development projects on ‘Viu Sasa),” joked Lil Koima, one of the commentators.
For good measure, its said the TV set came complete with connection to pay channel DStv, through which the Cheplaskei youth can watch popular channels including ‘TV47’ and ‘Super Sport.’ MP Swarup had reportedly promised the TV set to Cheplaskei youth earlier.
