Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Homicide division have exhumed the body of a 66-year-old man said to have been murdered by his 44-year-old son in Mwiritu, Laikipia County.
The exhumation exercise was conducted under the watchful eye of government pathologist Johansen Oduor after the interrogation and arrest of the main suspect Nderitu Maina.
Nderitu is said to have killed his father Henry Maina Muthungu a businessman and buried him in a shallow grave with the motive of inheriting his vast property.
Muthungu’s neighbours watched in shock as detectives retrieved the body. All along, they’d thought the missing man was out of town for work.
A post mortem examination on the body of Maina will be conducted on Monday to establish the exact cause of death. His son is presently in police custody awaiting arraignment on Monday.
Mwiritu Area Chief Patrick Mahinda urged citizens to respect the property of their kin and work hard to build their own lives.
