Detectives last night gunned down a man believed to be part of a notorious gang that has been terrorising Nairobi residents.
The suspect, who police say “operates under a cover up name, ‘Kibe’” was killed at KCC area within Kariobangi South. A Glock pistol and three bullets were seized.
“Our hawk-eyed detectives bumped into three men while on patrol and challenged them to identify themselves,” says the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in a statement. “One pretended to be fishing out his ID from his pocket. Instead, he drew out his gun and opened fire. Luckily, none of the bullets caught any of the officers. Officers who had taken strategic positions returned fire, fatally injuring the suspect.”
The other two men run off in the darkness, “escaping an appointment with their maker by a whisker.” Detectives say they are on their trail.
The seized firearm and bullets have been forwarded to ballistic experts at the DCI headquarters for analysis, while the body of ‘Kibe’ lies at a city morgue awaiting proper identification.
