Two people have lost their lives following a road accident involving a Probox motor vehice and one of the convoy vehicles belonging to Bonchari’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Teresa Oyioka on Monday evening.
A man and a woman who were on a motorbike were hit by the car, which was trying to overtake Oyioka’s convoy, passing away before they got to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The accident also saw five supporters of Oyioka receive different injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Teresa Oyioka, the widow to the late Bonchari MP Oroo Oyioka is one of the eight candidates who have been cleared by the IEBC to run for the Bonchari parliamentary seat.
According to South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, Oyioka was on another vehicle during the accident.
The Bonchari parliamentary seat fell vacant on February 15, 2021 following the death of John Oroo Oyioka.
The seat has so far attracted 13 candidates with eight of them cleared by the IEBC.
They are; Kevin Mosomi (Party of Democratic Unity) Jona Onkendi (The New Democrats), Victor Omanwa (Party of Economic Development), Charles Ndege (Progressive Party of Kenya), Atancha Jeremiah (Agano Party) and Paul Mogiti (Mwangaza Party).
The parlimentary by-elections are scheduled for May 18,2021.
