A chief in Tana River County collapsed and died on Wednesday while writing his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
Sala location chief Abdi Bute Sure was writing his Chemistry Paper II exam when he collapsed. The elderly candidate was rushed to Hola County Referral Hospital where he was checked up and released.
The following morning, however, lodge attendants in a hotel the chief checked in tipped off the police after he failed to get out of the hotel room.
The hotel attendants were worried since the old man did not get out from his hotel room and they knew he was sitting for his KCSE exams,” Tana River DCIO Habel Ndikira told Tuko.
The deceased family members said the chief had been suffering from high blood pressure and chronic asthma.
The chief was registered as a private candidate at the examination centre.
Tana River County Commissioner Mathias Mbogai Rioba said that the cause of death was not yet established.
“Until we get official word from the doctor, we don’t want to speculate on the matter,” Rioba said.
The late Sure was buried immediately according to the Islamic faith.
