On March 19 this year, Triza Nyakio, 8, allegedly relieved herself on mature crop of bananas belonging to a neighbour.

According to a police report made at Wang’uru Police Station in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, the infuriated neighbour thrashed the girl. It was around 3pm. Later that evening, Triza disappeared and has not been seen since.

The incident at Ngurubani village has seen residents and a distraught mother call on police to conduct speedy investigations that will lead to the recovery of Triza.

“The police told me to continue with my work, and they will do theirs,” says the mother. “I have searched everywhere including rivers, everywhere that I could imagine my daughter is. I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen her to please return her to me.”

One angry neighbours said that even if it was true Triza had relieved herself on the bananas, there was no justification to cane her. “Our hearts will not be at peace until she is found.”
