Uganda President Yoweri Musevei on Friday hosted Senegalese-American musician Aliaune Damala Badara Thiam, alias Akon, in his Rwakitura home.
Accompanied by his wife Rozina Negusei, the music icon held talks with President Museveni for possible business opportunities in the country.
According to Museveni, Akon is looking into investing in a number of sectors in the East African country, including energy, tourism, and infrastructure development.
“Mama @JanetMuseveni and I told @Akon and his wife that Uganda is the best tourism destination, known for its fantastic weather, considering that we are right on the Equator but with a high altitude. This is unique! There are only about two other places gifted that much,” says President Museveni.
Akon is planning to make investments in various parts of Africa. In Senegal, he is planning to set up a crypto-currency city, which has since being branded “Real-life Wakanda”.
Located some 60 miles to the south of Dakar, Senegal’s capital, the $6 billion investment will span across 2,000 acres. The first stone was laid by Akon in September 2020.
