Grief has engulfed Gware village in Uriri Constituency, Migori County, after a boda boda operator committed suicide after finding his wife partying with her lover.
Godfrey Karani, 30, reportedly busted his wife dancing with her lover in a night club, an event that apparently prompted him to commit suicide.
Confirming the incident, Uriri Sub-County Police Commander Peter Njoroge said the body of the man was found dangling from the roof of his house on Monday.
Njoroge led police officers in retrieving Karani’s body from his rented house in Gware area.
“The neighbours only suspected that the man had committed suicide after he did not come out of his house since morning,” Njoroge told journalists.
Njoroge further said that they had to break into the house because it was locked from the inside.
Residents expressed their shock saying that Karani got wind from his friends that his wife was partying with her lover at the bar, and he rushed there to ascertain whether it was true.
When he got there, the security guard denied him access which only fuelled his anger, and he returned home.
“We did not hear from him afterwards,” Ezra Okumu, one of the neighbours said.
It is said that upon returning home, he took a sisal rope and hang himself in the sitting room.
Njoroge said that investigations were still ongoing, with the body moved to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary.
