It is the end of the road for two women suspected to be serial criminals who lure men into their trap, drug them before robbing them of their valuables.
Grace Njeri, 29, and Evelyne Esendi, 32, were on Sunday, April 11 arrested after police disrupted their plan in Ngurubani town in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County.
It is reported that the duo lured the man into their trap at a local joint in the town, before lacing his drink with an unknown substance. The women then used a bodaboda operator to ferry the stupified man to a room they had booked at Village Inn Guest House.
“The duo had been spotted leaving the room and proceeded to an ATM belonging to a leading bank, where detectives believe some transactions were made,” says the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
It is these suspicious moves that attracted the attention of a CCTV controller at Nice Digital City, a mall adjacent to Village Inn Guest House. He immediately alerted police officers from Wanguru Police Station.
The officers swung into action, arresting the two women. They found the man lying on the bed unconscious.
“He is currently receiving treatment at Comrade Mission Hospital,” the DCI adds.
Mwea-East Police Commander Daniel Kitavi says the man has regained consciousness and has recorded a statement with the police.
It is alleged that the two women have been targeting men in towns such as Ngurubani, Kerugoya, Kagio, Sagana among others.
The two suspects have been placed into police custody and will be charged with drugging a man and robbing him when arraigned.
