This was in spite of spite losing 1-0 each in the second leg played last evening.
Chelsea will be appearing in the semi-finals for the first time since 2014. They won 2-1 on aggregate against Porto in Estadio Ramon Sanchez. Chelsea entered the match with a 2-0 lead from the first leg.
Too Little, Too Late
A solid defensive performance by the blues was broken deep into stoppage time by a spectacular overhead kick from Taremi that gave Mendy no chance. However, it was too late for the Portuguese outfits to overturn their defeat.
In the PSG vs Bayern match, Cameroon international Eric Choupo Moting scored the only goal to give Bayern a 1-0 win in Paris. However, that wasn’t enough to see the German champions through to the semi finals; they were eliminated on the away-goal rule following a first leg 3-2 drubbing.
Third In A Row
Bayern are the third reigning Champions League winners in a row to fail to reach at least the semi-final stage in the subsequent season after Real Madrid (2017/2018) and Liverpool (2018/2019).
Chelsea will now face the aggregate winner between Liverpool and Real Madrid, while PSG will battle against the winner between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.
