Wakise who shot himself dead after killing his wife on April 6,2021 was not accorded the normal military and police honors reserved for fallen national servicemen.
Wakise’s last journey was attended only by close friends and family members with police officers donning civilian attire at the burial.
Unusual Bodyguard Burial
In a normal police or militant officer burial service, his body would be dressed in military attire, a 21 fire gun salute, with the casket covered with a police service flag, and the military anthem played at the graveside.
Unlike Wakise, his wife Pauline Wakasa who was buried on April 11, 2021, was accorded police respect.
Police Flag on Bodyguard
Pauline’s casket was draped in a police service flag, carried by the police officers, and given the final 21 gun salute at the graveside.
Interior CS Fred Matiang’i mourned the death of Wakasa, “We mourn a courageous officer who will be missed not only by her family but relatives, friends and the police service.”
Investigations into the circumstances that led to the murder-suicide are still ongoing.
