Tension is high in Baringo South after armed bandits on Thursday, April 15 killed a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer in a night attack.
The armed bandits raided a security agency camp in Mukutani area with the exchange of gunfire that ensued leading to the fatal shooting of the KDF officer.
A police report filed at Mukutani Police Station says that at around 8:00 pm the bandits attacked the camp that houses General Service Unit (GSU), Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), and KDF officers.
Confirming the incident, area chief Mr Benjamin Lecher said the body of the slain officer is still lying at the camp.
Troubled by bandits
The attack comes days after the Government resumed a security operation in the volatile region.
The operation was resumed after armed men attacked Lamaiwet area in Mochongoi ward and stole over 200 livestock.
In late March, a 60-year-old man was shot dead, a child and her mother injured in Mukutani area. The two are still hospitalised.
