Police in Imenti South, Meru County have arrested a man for allegedly hacking his daughter to death, and seriously injuring his wife.
Boniface Murithi, a tea farmer, got into a fight with his wife Mary Nchabira, 31, on Saturday. He reportedly cut her arm with a panga and slashed her stomach, leaving her intestines exposed.
Their baby Princess Kawira witnessed the attack and ran towards her bleeding mother. This further angered Murithi. He allegedly struck the baby on the head, killing her instantly.
Claims About Wife
The suspect immediately fled to his brother’s place in Maua, seeking help to relocate. He reportedly told him that his wife had been unfaithful, stirring his anger. Peter Mugambi, the brother, a gospel musician popularly known as “Mister P”, liaised with the police to have Murithi nabbed.
“He had told me that his life was in danger as people were looking for him after the incident and he wanted to flee. I decided to inform the police. When he showed up at the agreed place, he found us with the OCS and he was arrested,” said Mister P.
Imenti South police chief William Maronga said the suspect was planning to board a matatu. He will face murder and assault charges.
Meanwhile, Mary, who miraculously survived, is recuperating at the Consolata Mission Hospital, Nkubu.
