A minor who is accused of disguising himself as a police officer to commit various crimes in Meru town has been released on KSh50,000 cash bail.
The 17-year-old was charged alongside his accomplice, a mechanic identified as Alex Mwiti alias Kashada.
The minor and the mechanic were arrested on the night of April 25, 2021 at a Go Down Meru town.
Two other suspects who were in the company of the accused managed to escape arrest that night.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Stella Abuya, the duo denied being in possession of a government store, i.e a jungle jacket belonging to the National Police Service, suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained for use in criminal activities.
They resisted arrest at first
The court was told that the two resisted arrest by police officers Bahir Hussein and Vincent Kadiga, prompting the cops to shoot in the air.
The incident comes few days after DCI boss George Kinoti denied an expose that had insinuated that police officers are renting their firearms and uniforms to criminals.
