Police in Lamu County have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and confiscated over 430 rolls of bhang worth KSh500,000.
Fauz Fadhil was intercepted with ferrying two huge boxes in a hand cart. The boxes had clothes, onions, perfume, packets of flour and other household items.
“We suspected the boxes had drugs,” Lamu Regional sub-county commissioner John Lekuta said. “We arrested the suspect immediately and the boxes were brought to the police station.”
Police inspected the boxes and found the rolls of bhang. Lekuta said the suspect hoped the onions would mask the smell of the drug and hopefully steer away the attention of law enforcement authorities.
Though the coastal region is a hub for drug trafficking, Lekuta says the police are up to task in fighting the cartels. He called on the public to join hands with the police in tackling the menace.
On April 28, a 48-year-old woman was rushed to Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi, Taita Taveta County, after swallowing sachets of Heroin in a bid to avoid being arrest.
