Inspector General (IG) of Police Hillary Mutyambai says the man recorded assaulting a traffic police officer is a fellow officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“My attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media of a civilian attacking a Traffic Police Officer,” Mutyambai wrote on his Twitter. “Preliminary investigations have revealed that the civilian in the said video is an officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).”
DCI officer in trouble
The DCI officer has since been arrested and will be arraigned in court tomorrow (Monday, May 3).
According to the police boss, the said officer will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and assaulting a police officer. He risks a five-year imprisonment for assault and two years or a fine of KSh100,000 for driving under the influence.
The viral video featured both men; one in civilian clothes and another in uniform. The one in civilian attacked the uniformed officer, who appeared calm and composed.
