Jubilee Party will conduct the nominations to pick a candidate for the Kiambaa Parliamentary by-election on Saturday, May 15.
Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju says that five aspirants have applied, seeking to run on the party ticket.
Three of the five aspirants are members of the same family, the Koinange family, putting the Jubilee Party in a political dilemma.
The late MP Koinage’s wife, June Koinange, former Cabinet Minister Mbiyu Koinange’s daughter, Lenah Koinange, and her niece Damaris Wambui are some of the aspirants.
Tuju: Jubilee nominations to pick best candidate
Raphael Tuju says that during nominations, only the most popular candidate among the five will be picked to fly the ruling party’s flag in the Kiambaa by-election.
“I don’t think we will have any problem because what we will do is a credible nomination process. We want to assure all the aspirants that we will do a credible process in identifying the right candidate,” said Tuju.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set July 15, 2021 as the date for the Kiambaa Parliamentary, and Muguga Ward MCA by-elections.
The party will be looking to retain the seat, as the late MP was the ruling party member.
