DCI detectives on Thursday, May 14 shot dead two “armed and dangerous” criminals preparing to stage a robbery in Ukunda area of Kwale County.
The sleuths were reportedly on patrol around the area, when they came across the two criminals, armed with an assortment of “weapons including knives, machetes and an imitation of a firearm.”
DCI said that the firearm is currently under examination by ballistic experts who will determine its usability.
Further, they recovered various cellphone handsets, which they believe must have been stolen from victims previously attacked by the criminals.
The deceased reportedly refused to surrender when the officers ordered them to do so, which prompted the officers to shoot at them.
Criminals terrorising residents
DCI further says that the two are suspected to be part of a larger criminal syndicate that has been terrorising residents of Diani in the last few days, with multiple cases of robberies being reported.
The bodies of the two were taken to Kwale Sub-county Hospital mortuary, awaiting identification.
