Police are investigating a suspected murder case where a man allegedly killed his wife and househelp in a botched rape attempt in Central Uganda.
The suspect, Shaban Musisi, a resident of Nsangi, Wakiso District, reportedly sneaked on their househelp Scovia Abed, 15, at night, and tried to rape her, but she screamed, alarming his wife, Ruth Nakazi, 40.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, confirming the incident, said that Musisi got into a quarrel with his wife which turned violent.
“It was around 4 am when the incident happened. The suspect, out of anger, picked a hammer and hit the wife several times until she died and later turned to Scovia who sustained injuries but later died in hospital,” Owoyesigire added.
Attempts suicide after killing wife, househelp
Musisi is said to have taken poison before attempting to flee from the scene of crime. His neighbours caught up with him at a nearby bush and immediately alerted the police who arrested him.
Owoyesigire said the suspect allegedly tried to commit suicide, and is under treatment for suspected poisoning. “He’s now admitted in Mulago National Referral Hospital in critical condition,” he added.
A bottle containing the suspected poison was recovered at his house, along with the suspected murder weapon which will be used as exhibit. The bottle was forwarded to the Government Analytical Laboratory for analysis.
