Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has launched a scathing attack at President Uhuru Kenyatta over his handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Through his Twitter handle, the DP William Ruto ally says that perhaps President Uhuru misled the former prime minister into a handshake with hidden motives.
While maintaining that the handshake and its subsequent Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is only but a ploy for Uhuru to hold onto power beyond 2022 when his term ends, the lawmaker now says that the whole process has painted Raila in bad light.
“Dear Raila Odinga. You don’t belong to dictatorship. You belong to democracy. Come back home Baba. Redeem yourself Baba. You are not a robber baron Baba. They are making you look bad Baba,” tweeted MP Kuria.
Moses Kuria happy as BBI declared null, void
The High Court on Thursday, May 13 dealt the BBI Bill a major blow after it declared the whole process as unconstitutional.
Among other issues, the five-judge bench of Joel Ngugi, George Odunga, Jairus Ngaah, Teresia Matheka and Chacha Mwita ruled that President Kenyatta had breached the very Constitution he swore to protect when he took his oath of office, by initiating an amendment process to the document through popular initiative.
“It is our finding that popular initiative is power reserved for Wanjiku [the people] neither the president or any other state organ can utilise Article 257 to amend the Constitution,” the judges ruled.
Immediately after the landmark ruling, Kuria said “On the 1st September 2017, gloom, sadness, tears and despair engulfed Mt Kenya region when the Supreme Court cancelled Kenya’s Presidential Election. On the 13th May 2021, Mt Kenya region was in a carnival mood after a 5 judge bench stopped Reggae. What 4 years can do !”
BBI proponents will next week file an appeal at the appellate court, seeking to overturn the five-judge bench ruling.
Kuria has been a strong critic of President Uhuru ever since the handshake in March 9 2018, blaming him for overseeing a collapse of the economy.
