A silent first-half was followed by a dramatic second-half with Tielemans giving the Foxes the lead in the 63rd minute. The goal however saw Chelsea players protest for a handball but the centre referee Michael Oliver dismissed their claims.
Chelsea’s horrible day continued in the 90th minute when Leicester captain We Morgan scored an own goal but was ruled out for offside on Ben Chilwell. Following the win, Leicester will have to thank their goalkeeper Kasper Schemiechel who made two wonderful saves denying Mason Mount before making an even better save to deny Chilwell.
FA Cup History
The FA Cup win means that Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is the first manager to win both the English and Scottish FA Cup since Sir Alex Ferguson. “I’m very proud. It’s a historical day for the football club, winning the FA Cup for the first time in their history, and clearly a special day,” Rodgers was quoted by SkySports as saying.
Chelsea will have to blame themselves following a series of poor finishing especially in the first-half. Thomas Tuchel has now lost three of the last four finals he has been in charge.
The two teams will face each other on Tuesday May 18 as the battle for top four Premier League finish heats up. Chelsea and Tuchel now face a huge fortnight with the fight for a top four finish and the Champions League final against Manchester City around the corner.
He know he has to perform better if Chelsea is to harvest anything this season.
