Kenya Railways will tomorrow launch a new commuter train service between Nairobi Central Business District and Limuru town in Kiambu County.
According to a schedule seen by TV47Digital, the train will depart Limuru town daily at 5:30am and arrive in Nairobi at 7:52am. The daily train from Nairobi will depart at 5:20pm and arrive in Limuru at 7:42pm. The train will make stop overs in Kikuyu, Dagoretti and Kibera.
Kenya Railways say the commuter service will charge a standard KSh80 per passenger. The new route is part of the Nairobi Commuter Rail Service. The rail service is part of the Nairobi Metropolitan Transport Master Plan, whose aims is to modernise and expand railway transport infrastructure to divert passenger traffic from roads.
It envisages increasing rail passenger capacity from five million to 60m in the first phase of the project. Some of the places already being serviced by the project are Buru Buru, Pipeline, Umoja, Githurai, Donholm, Ruiru, Syokimau, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kikuyu and Embakasi Village.
