There was drama at a funeral in Kibingei ward in Kimilili, Bungoma County, on Saturday after the area MP Didmus Barasa was involved in an altercation with a mourner.
It all started when the lawmaker, who had on March 21 announced that he will take a four-month sabbatical leave from politics, started attacking the leadership of Governor Wycliffe Wangamati.
According to MP Barasa, the biggest mistake the people of Bungoma did was to elect Wangamati as their governor- a man he says has overseen wanton theft of public money at the county level.
It appears that the man, who is allegedly one of the governor’s aide, could not take it anymore with the MP’s attack on his boss.
At this point, the well-built man bravely stood up from one of the tents, went straight to the MP and grabbed the microphone from him.

All hell breaks lose
Irate supporters of the MP who were baying for the man’s blood attacked him and beat him. The MP is heard pleading with his supporters to leave him alone, and was later spotted holding the man’s hand as he led him away from the angry mourners.
The Jubilee MP says that he drove him away in his car to save him. Barasa says that the man is currently receiving treatment for the injuries he sustained at the Kimilili Sub-county Hospital.
