A Zimbabwean man’s quest to fast for 40 days and 40 nights in the hope that God would give him money to buy his girlfriend a Lamborghini has ended as a near-death experience in hospital.
Mark Muradzira, 27, a youth leader at Risen Saints Church in Bindura, central Zimbabwe, retreated to some remote mountain and said no food and no water.
According to Mbare Times, Muradzira wanted to fulfil his girlfriend’s dream of owning the $200,000 (KSh21m) sports car. But since he’s unemployed and was getting desperate, he decided to fast for 40 days for God to help him out.
“He should at least have fasted for a job since he is unemployed,” said his church leader Bishop Mawuru.
Muradzira’s fellow churchgoers started a fundraiser to buy the Lamborgini – after all, “with God all things are possible”- but that fizzled out around the $36 (KSh3,900) mark. The besotted young man was tracked down by concerned friends after 33 days in the wilderness.
He was emaciated, and rushed to Bindura General Hospital. The KSh3,900 raised is said to be catering for part of his medical bill.
In the failed Lamborghini dream, the status of the girlfriend’s heart (broken or not), is unknown.
