Trevor Lindavala, a pupil at Shitakho Community Primary School, reportedly drowned in River Isiukhu four days ago. Together with his three friends, Lindavala had gone swimming when he was overpowered by the strong water waves.
“He came with some three friends intending to swim in this river. His friends were able to swim but as for him, the waves overpowered him, ” one of the witnesses told TV47 Digital.
Unable to retrieve pupil’s body after drowning
Efforts to retrieve his body through various local divers have proved futile, with residents and family calling for Governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s help.
His family says that the deceased had gone to visit a relative in the area, to attend a funeral ceremony, after which he decided to go for swimming with some boys.
“This boy who accompanied the others was new in this area. The others dived into the river and began swimming as was normal to them. They told the deceased to also dive in and try swimming, but he did not know how to swim,” one of his relatives said.
