Residents of Soweto in Nairobi’s Kayole area are in search of the body of a man who threw himself into a river after alleged frustrations over his unemployment state.
Daniel Omondi reportedly committed suicide by jumping into Ngong River in Embakasi area on Thursday evening at around 5pm.
Man frustrated over lack a job
His family revealed that Omondi had been thrown into depression after he lost his job and unsuccessfully sought alternative sources of income.
“I had gone for a church fellowship in the evening when I received a phone call informing me that my brother had fallen into the river along the Embakasi bridge,” Omondi’s sister narrates.
She further revealed that her missing brother had vented his financial frustrations to her, insinuating that it could be what pushed him to kill himself.
Despite filing a report at the Soweto Police Station, Omondi’s sister says that the police have done little to help in finding his brother’s body.
Unprofessional, local divers who have been looking for his body have appealed to the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) to intervene, as they were short of equipment and manpower.
Residents further appealed to NMS to erect guard rails along the Embakasi bridge to curb such incidences.
The deceased reportedly left behind a wife and two children.
