20-year-old man hacks grandmother, 90, to death over KSh600

Police in Kayunga District, Central Uganda, have arrested a man suspected to have hacked his 90-year-old grandmother to death over KSh600.

Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson Hellen Butoto, confirming the incident on Saturday morning, said the 20-year-old suspect, Richard Ssesanga, demanded money from his grandmother, Christine Nambi.

Man demands for grandmother’s phone to withdraw money

“The suspect sought the victim’s phone to withdraw Shs20,000, but when she refused to hand it over, he grabbed a hoe and fatally hit her on the head leading to her death,” Butoto said.

Police officers visited the scene of crime and have begun investigations into the case.

The deceased’s body was reportedly transferred to Kayunga Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
