June Ruto, DP Ruto’s firstborn daughter, on Thursday, May 27 exchanged wedding vows with his Nigerian fiancé, Dr. Alexander Ezenagu.
In an invite-only elite ceremony conducted in Karen, Nairobi, June said “I do” to the Nigerian, in the presence of close family members, friends, and several high profile politicians allied to his father.
The beautiful bride was dressed in a white strapless gown. June’s husband-to-be had donned a double-breasted fitting navy-blue suit.
DP Ruto leaves guests in stitches
But it was DP Ruto’s speech at the reception that left guests in stitches.
In his speech, a typical DP Ruto narrated how it was difficult for him to hand over his beloved daughter to a man. While reminiscing the story of Anthony Chinedu, a man who hit the headlines in 2013 and consequently deported, DP Ruto stressed that it was even more difficult to give away your daughter to Nigerians.
“It is both an exciting and anxious moment. It is not easy as a parent to give away your daughter. It is much more difficult if you are giving away your daughter to Nigerians. It is much more difficult when you are giving your daughter to Igbos,” said the DP amid laughter from the crowd.
DP Ruto continued: “Because when I first met Alex I told him a story of a guy called Chinedu who gave us a lot of trouble and I was told that man was an Igbo. So you can understand, this Chinedu fellow gave us so much trouble that we deported him to Nigeria and when we deported him he refused to get out of the aeroplane in Lagos for two days. Even after leaving him there, we found him in Kenya.”
The wedding came barely three weeks after June and Ezenagu got engaged. The ceremony (commonly known as Koito in the Kalenjin culture) saw DP Ruto and his wife Rachel host their Nigerian in-laws at the Karen residence.
