Interior CS Fred Matiang’i in a Gazette Notice (dated 28, May 2021) has announced the extension of the nationwide curfew for another 60 days.
The notice further states that public gatherings are still banned. “There shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of the curfew except as shall be permitted,” it reads.
This does not apply to essential service providers who include journalists, health workers among others.
Previously Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu, Kajiado and Nakuru were zoned areas as they were said to have high Covid infections. The curfew caused a social media uproar when enforcement roadblocks abruptly erected by police, forcing people spending nights on the road.
