For Chelsea FC fans across the world, it is celebrations after the London club beat Manchester City at the UEFA Champions League final in Porto on Saturday night, to become Champions of Europe for a second time.
But for one family in Suba North Constituency, the culmination of this year’s elite European club competition will come as a curse.
A class seven boy, who appears to be a football fanatic, wanted to watch the match between the two English clubs at a nearby Ramba trading centre. The finale was starting at 10pm local time, and only DSTV subscribers would be able to stream the match.
His parents were opposed to the idea, ordering him to go and sleep. His mother, in a bid to make sure that the boy does not sneak out, went on to lock the door to the house from the outside.
On Sunday morning, the mother went to the house to open the door for her son, but she was met with a rude rather saddening shock.
Mavin Ochieng Okuku had one of his favourite trousers tied around his neck, inside his bedroom- He was no more…
Perhaps out of anger, the Ramba Primary School pupil had committed suicide the previous night.
The minor’s body has been taken to Kirindo Hospital morgue, awaiting his interment.
